PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Your Intrepid Reporter is aware that Rotary rarely allows discussion of partisan politics. However, there is a gray area, and Your Intrepid Reporter begs forgiveness for the following observation, which he believes should be considered a Public Service Announcement instead of a screed about partisan politics. So here goes.
Doesn’t CINDY L sound presidential, by golly? And if you look at the map, notice that the patriotic state of Wisconsin, from which she hails down the road from Cheese Factory No. 3, is just across Lake Superior from Canada, which invaded these United States 205 years ago! This Intrepid Reporter recalls that it was not too many years ago that CINDY L and the Wisconsin National Guard were on watch for Canadian geese with bombs strapped under their wings at the direction of Premier Pierre Trudeau, or his wife. So CINDY L has foreign policy experience, too. Enough said. Just remember who said it first.
In any event, CINDY L kept her name before the public eye by announcing that the Day Worker Center Cleanup previously set for October 25 has been postponed. And CINDY L also fined right and left, extracting from proud new papa LOU WELLMEIER the fact that he cuts his own hair with pet shears, and confirming for all Rotarians that brothers JERRY and BILL MOISON almost, but not quite, equal BRIAN WARD in their male chauvinism. Also, for those with children or grandchildren who text message, what does “R U S” mean? We now know that it means “are you serious”.
RED BADGERS TO THE FORE
STEVE POMEROY announced the the Red Badgers have decided to fund the library at the newly refurbished Gardner-Bullis Elementary School in rural Los Altos Hills. To date they have raised $3,000. As an aside, the reopening of G-P is a good thing, among other reasons because children who attend the reopened school will now have more time to collect eggs in the morning and pick fruit in the afternoon, and the parents who deliver them to school and return them to the homestead in the afternoon will be able to spend more time in the fields or in the barn. In these days of Wall Street meltdown, anything that benefits other segments of our economy is to be encouraged. So will the Red Badgers have a say in what books are purchased with their donations? See below for possible professional help.
