INVASION OF THE ETRUSCANS

ROTARY FOUNDATION PLEDGE DAY GALORE
PP Sam PesnerPP SAM PESNER, who has been largely invisible since his almost-forgotten Presidency many, many years ago (glad to see you still sort of alive, SAM), emerged from the mists and educated us with regard to the intricacies of recognition for donors to Rotary International.  First of all, and most importantly, only those who are absolutely clear about the many, many levels of recognition are allowed to donate cent one.  Here are the various levels:  Sustainer = Committed giver of $100 per year; Double Sustainer = Committed giver of $200 per year; Super Sustainer = Committed giver of $500 per year; Paul Harris Society Member = Committed giver of $1,000 per year.  So far this year, within LARC, we have 33 Doublers, 5 Supers and 5 Society Members!  District Governor, Gary Citti then spoke about new pins with different numbers and kinds of precious and semi-precious stones which are distributed, from time to time, to Rotarians who achieve various levels of giving to Rotary International.  PE Tracie Murray with her parentsTRACIE MURRAY followed by making each of her visiting parents Paul Harris Fellows in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary.  LARC’s goal for this Rotary year to Rotary International is $30,000.

RED BADGE Project  Red Badge Project: Bullis School: Jean Sanders and husband, Don along with Rotarians: Mary Marley, Greg Dabb, Bill balson, Gary Maggard, Stuart Bowen, Steve Pomeroy, Kevin Phillips, Mike Abrams and Gerry TomanekOn Saturday nine members of Rotary joined with the new Librarian for Gardner Bullis Elementary School, Jane Sanders, and her husband, Don, in assembling 66 library shelves.  These shelves are important to the school opening on time.  Thanks go to Rotary members MARY MARLEY, GREG DABB, BILL BALSON, GARY MAGGARD, STUART BOWEN, GERRY TOMANEK, STEVE POMEROY, KEVIN PHILLIPS, and MIKE ABRAMS for their time and effort Saturday.

TIME TO FINE
Kendra GjersethKENDRA (no last name because it cannot be spelled correctly six out of ten times) presided over fines, assisted ably by SANDY BOZICH, who disclosed the most intimate of secrets, i.e., that she cannot walk and write at the same time.  Elvis died August 16, 1977.  SAM PESNER, already noted above, was fined for his poorly-received imitation of Bill Murray in “Caddy Shack” at the Chamber of Commerce Golf Tourney.  STEVE SHEPHERD paid $5 in honor of BOB ADAMS’ wedding anniversary, then BOB tottered to his feet, added that the number is fifty-three, and BOB paid some more.  The pride BOB exhibited topped even the pride he exudes when talking about his alma mater, UC Berkeley, which is, by the way, the alma mater of former football stars Jackie Jensen and Chuck Muncie.

Herb and Lorraine MarshalWEDDING BELLS: Our own HERB MARSHALL got married over the weekend to Lauren (Lorraine) Boschetti.  A number of us Rotarians attended the ceremony delivering the well wishes from the club.  WAY TO GO HERBIE!  BTW in case you missed him, GARY ROSS was there as well, and will be returning to our weekly meetings after a few harrowing (health wise) months.

 TODAY’S PROGRAM – DISTRICT GOVERNOR
District Governor, Gary Citti The members of LARC warmly greeted our new District Governor, Gary Citti, member of Santa Clara Rotary Club.  The two mottoes for this Rotary year are “Always Have Fun” and “Make Dreams Real.”

Polio pockets remain in five countries, and Rotary continues to work with the World Health Organization and the U.N. to eliminate polio.  Rotary also hopes to reduce child mortality of 30,000 per day by providing access to clean water, access to education and by its many, many projects worldwide.

This Intrepid Reporter recalls first meeting Gary Citti 20 years ago.  He has lost none of his enthusiasm.  Go, Gary!

DG Citti was accompanied by Area 10 Assistant Governor, Mike Mansch (owner of Alotta's Deli in South Los Altos and Cupertino.)
