The tone of the meeting rebounded nicely, however, with LARRY CHU'S proud announcement of our LARC/Mtn View Rotary softball team's stunning, sixth inning victory over the dreaded Los Altos Kiwani’s (widely known for their accumulation of young, talented ringers over the years). Final score: 19 to 16!
DG Meets with LARC Board. District Governor Russ Hobbs met with our Board before the meeting Thursday at the new First Republic Bank Board Room:

Update your handbook info NOW, to avoid having a picture of you in the
seventies, with your afro and wide tie, still gracing the pages of our book.
Assistant District Governor, CINDY LUEDTKE told about her role with Area 10,
as she introduced our speaker for the day, District Governor Russ Hobbs.
Russ was President of the Sunnyvale Rotary Club in '93-'94, and has twice
been honored as Rotarian of the Year. Following his B.S. in Marketing from
Cal State Chico, he served as an Army Second Lieutenant in Seoul, Korea,
where he married his wife Mary Ann. Russ owns his own Insurance Agency and
has won many awards over the years. This past year, he was honored as
Allstate Insurance Company’s “Volunteer of the Year” for his work in Rotary.
The theme of his talk was "What on Earth am I Here For?", and "Whatcha
gonna do with whatcha got?" He spoke eloquently about the inspiring life of
Paul Harris, who came from a checkered past to get his law degree, and five
years later settled down in Chicago, where he opened his law office and
subsequently founded Rotary.
Plugging the District Conference this year in Monterey, Russ said we "otter"
come. He said that teamwork is how ordinary people can do extraordinary
things, citing as an example, the day Rotary achieved the incredible feat of
inoculating 90 million kids in India in one day.
Russ then left a gift for us, to be auctioned off next week, from the East
Palo Alto Rotary, and thanked us for being the club that we are.
An Update
On Nels Burdett:
"Recently
Nels was transferred from El Camino Hospital to the Skilled Nursing Unit
of the Health Center at the Forum. Everything is healing well for Nels and
he just needs to get his strength back. Thanks you all for your wonderful
emails and prayers."
