GRAND NEW FLAGS
Scoutmaster DAVE LUEDTKE and two Boy Scouts from Troop 37 attended and installed our new U.S. flag.  We also appear to have a new California flag.  What happens to old flags?  ALEX FARMER of the Troop explained.

They are burned at a solemn nighttime ceremony at Boy Scout camp.   DAVID DYE, Executive for the Pacific Skyline Council, took the opportunity to announce that, effective July 1st, he will be Executive with the San Francisco Council, and consequently he is resigning from LARC.  Good luck in your new endeavor, DAVID!

REMAINING INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES
KENDRA GJERSETH raised our level of collective self-esteem by showing how we can coordinate when we really want to.  We successfully sang one entire verse of “Row, row, row your boat” in four parts, or was it one part and three echoes?  BILL PALMER explained the significance of “I came as a stranger, and you took me in,” which appears above the doorway at a hospital in Ireland where Henry Ford gave $50,000.

FIROOZ ADVANCES
FIROOZ GHAFFARI is back home and welcomes communication by email, cards and letters, but he would prefer no phone calls.  He is planning to return soon to our meetings.  See you soon, FIROOZ!

A FINEMASTER IS BORN
DAVID SMITH burst upon the scene and signed up new members of the President’s Club at such a dizzying rate that this scribe was unable to keep up.  The new members include:  BUD OLIVER, MATT CABOT, BO KEARNS, BRUCE CANN, MARY PROCHNOW, JOANNE BYRNE, and BAIDRA MURPHY, WYATT ALLEN, JOHN HAMBLIN, BRIAN WARD and DICK DUHRING.  Of special note, JOHN HAMBLIN announced the birth of his third daughter.  Congratulations, JOHN!

1982 REVISITED
BOO BUE joined Rotary in 1982 as a consequence of being recruited by JERRY CEREGHINO, Manager of the Fremont branch of the Bank of America.  JERRY retired to Sonoma many years ago.  BOO was so impressed by Rotary that he suggested to the five managers of his far-flung business empire that they, too, join Rotary.  Four of them did, and all became Presidents of their clubs.  One has gone beyond that.  BOO also taught us all a valuable management principle:  Attend all your board meetings, or surprising things will occur.  BOO missed one meeting as President when called away to the far reaches of his empire.  He returned to discover that his board has pledged to raise $100,000 or so for Polio Plus.  BOO did not miss a beat and led us in raising the pledged sum, and then some.

ADDITIONAL VALUABLE DATA
JOAN ROSSELLE needs volunteers for upcoming fellowship events, so give her a call.  The evening of July 11 we are planning a barbecue at the conclusion of a softball game against the despised Kiwanis.  PREZ CINDY and DICK HASENPFLUG walked from San Antonio to CINDY’s new bank, First Republic Bank, all the way beyond Page Mill, as part of the West Coast Walk.

FRED HEREDIAN of the Jakarta Rotary Club visited all the way from Indonesia to report on the progress of our contribution to Tsunami Relief.

TODAY’S PROGRAM
JEAN MORDO moderated a presentation about the year’s activity by the World Community Service Committee.

Joe CORRAL discussed the ongoing project in Guatemala to provide desks and build a schoolhouse.  JOE also discussed the Tsunami Relief project in Indonesia to build fishing boats.

ALLART LIGTENBERG discussed 4 projects in Nepal involving the use of solar reflectors.

DOUG FRANCO discussed the eye clinic project in Afghanistan, where to date we have delivered a lens cleaning machine plus other equipment and supplies.

PICTURES FROM LAST WEEK AND BEYOND:
I got this picture from one of the below individuals.  They claim it was a make-up on an Alaskan Cruise.  You decide.

Second, there are the pictures from the Polio Plus Runner, Nathan
