ART SHOW DIRECTOR EXTRAORDINAIRE, JACK HEIDMILLER lead us in the Pledge, and AL, La Marseillaise LAMBERT lead us in the song for the day.

FRANCIS LA POLL gave us a very interesting THOUGHT FOR THE DAY about the Hindu religion creating gods that personify every possible point of view, condition and situation.  He ended with the thought that we should have tolerance, and be open minded to other’s ideas.  (Is he running again?)

JACK HEIDMILLER gave a preliminary report that the Art Show did very well, and that money is still coming in.  A more comprehensive Final report will be made on June 9th.  Jack should be particularly pleased with the way he handled the weather.

For Jack’s report, he is looking for pictures that people took at the art show.  They should send them to MATT CABOT to be included in a presentation DVD at the June meeting,.  So far, Matt has only the pictures that he took, which are on the website at here, and some that JERRY TOMANEK took of the Young At Art.  So, PLEASE GIVE OR EMAIL YOUR PICTURES TO Matt Cabot at Matt.cabot@GMail.com ASAP

JACK also mentioned that there will be a wrap-up meeting on MAY 25TH AT 5:30 PM AT NORTHERN TRUST Bank.  {corrected 05/25/05} All committee chairs, should plan on attending.  The purpose will be to give positive and negative feedback to Jack, and everyone else about their responsibilities during the art show, placing particular emphasis on how to improve your committee for next year.

LOST AND FOUND.  I lost my glasses at, I think the Art Show, either Saturday or Sunday.  And, one of our performers lost a Wallet in or near the Ladies Restroom last Thursday.  Anyone find either?  Let me know, please.

SAM PESNER briefly went over the changes to the LAREF by-laws.  Fortunately he did not read them all.  However, if you like, and you should like, here is a link to the by-laws on our website, with changes marked in red.  SAM also thanked his committee, which he read too fast for me to copy.  So, thank you committee.  You know who you are.

SAM, as President Elect next year, put on his Program Chair hat and mentioned that President Marlene’s year will emphasize an International theme, and one of Fostering Understanding.  So, if you have a suggetion for a program, by all means let Sam know.  Now is the time.  Believe it or not the calendar is getting filled up.

JOHN MOSS reminds us about the American Cancer Society’s fundraiser RELAY FOR LIFE walk-a-thon on June 25th and 26th.  Los Altos Rotary club has a team, and is still looking for walkers.  Apparently only 7 (out of 37) of you have gone to the website to sign-up as a walker.  Here is the information:  Go to the Los Altos Relay For Life website at:  http://www.losaltosrelay.com/.  Then, click on Click here to join or start a team!  .  then, agree to Waiver/Agreement clause, and click “I AGREE”.  Then you click on “Join a Team”, and then click on the drop down box to select the Rotary Team:  ROTARY RAMBLERS, click on “Continue”, and fill out the application form.

Once that is completed, you have an opportunity to donate right then are there.  It is as simple as ordering something from Lands End, without picking the size and model, and color numbers.  Just fill in the amount, and your credit card information and you are signed up.

One thing. This is a fund raiser, so, surprise, surprise, you are expected to either/or/and solicit donations from your non walking friends, and family members.  I just happened to mention it at family dinner the other night and my daughter-in-law (just fresh off a Fund Raiser at Monclaire) offered to walk and solicit for the cause, so you never know.

Another point: as a walker, you will be asked to set up an account to accumulate all of the donations that will be made in your name.  Be sure to do that.  That way you can keep track of your goal.  You than can send the donation URL to your friends and family.  You don’t have to collect checks or anything.  It couldn’t be easier.

If you are not a walker, you can use this same website to make your donation.

With the recent health news of Past President FIROOZ GHAFFARI and BRUCE CANN, we should be especially responsive to the Call-To-Arms.

RECOGNITION MASTER JOHN SYLVESTER was very effective today.   Eight of the people he called on, succumbed to the CHEESE HEAD moniker:  FRANCIS LA POLL, GRAY ROSS, DENNIS POTTER, JOE CORRAL, BILL PALMER, DOUG FRANCO, KATIE NUTTER and AL LIGTENBERG, raising over $750.  Do we have a new Art Show Director in the making?

TRACIE MURRAY pointed out that April was Volunteer Month, a very familiar activity for Rotarians.  Tracie encouraged us to fill out the form on the table.  No need to put the actual volunteer hours, just the fact that you did volunteer for something during the month.  She also pointed out a copy of the 4 Way Test cleverly printed at the top of the form.  Wonder why.

TODAY’S PROGRAM was presented by JEAN (John to us Americans) MORDO.  He introduced Artistic Director, Barbara Cannon.

Barbara gave us some information about the stage company, in its 10th anniversary season this year.  In the fall of 1995, with the generous assistance of the Los Altos Community Foundation and the work of Board Members, Vicki Reeder and OUR OWN, ROY LAVE, Bus Barn Stage Company was raised from the ashes of the Los Altos Conservatory Theatre (LACT) a company that had operated out of the same location since 1977, until Doyen Moraz retirement in that year.

Bus Barn Stage Company produces a diverse season of six musicals, comedies and plays in the intimate 100 seat theatre on Hillview Avenue.  In the last 3 of 4 years they have also mounted a free Shakespeare Festival on three weekends in August in Shoup Park.

This year, they will present their first SUMMER FESTIVAL which includes 2 one-man shows and a premier of a new musical written by South-Bay writer/musician, Charles Majewski, called YOUNG BILLY, based on the life of Billy-the-Kid.

Their new season begins in September.  Look at their website at:  http://www.busbarn.org/ for further information.

The Stage troupe then presented 5 songs from the musical Revue THE WORLD GOES ROUND, which opened last Friday, and runs through June 18th.  Again, go to their website for more information, AND TICKETS.

The performers were: Paul Araquistain, Jacqueline McSwanson, Jennifer Oku, Linda Piccone and Martin Rojas-Deitrich.

WEBMASTERS NOTE:  I am still looking for writers for this next year.  Please email me if you are interested. I have a couple, but would like to spread out the work a bit.  So, let me know.  If you are interested you also might look at the Rotator suggested style sheet which is posted on the web.  We are making up the schedule for next season, so let me know ASAP.  Thanks. Matt Cabot.
