MEETING OF FEBRUARY 26, 2004

By Mary Prochnow

Editor:  Dick Blanding

RICK GLAZE led the gathering in AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL.   BUD OLIVER gave the THOUGHT FOR THE DAY from a book given to ANN'S Grandmother in 1915.  PRESIDENT ELECT CINDY LUEDTKE introduced visitors DAVID SMITH, DOUG FRANCO, and ANN OLIVER.

NOTE:   This coming meeting is the group photo. If you cannot attend please send a "head shot" of yourself, taken outdoors, to MIKE HARRIGAN via e-mail. If this challenges the bounds of your electronic mastery perhaps you could stop in to see Mike at his shop at 240 Main!  We want you in the photo!

JERRY MOISON, ART SHOW CHAIR EXTRAORDINAIRE needs a Chair for "Young At Art" and JERRY is looking for Rotarians to sponsor various features of the Art Show. See Jerry for sponsor opportunities.

ANN OLIVER AND BAIDRA MURPHY were acknowledged for new levels of participation in Foundation giving.

Congratulations to BRENDA NIEDERT, who announced her engagement during the fining period.   The finemaster himself was fined for the nature of one of his questions.  The noise made in the room over that question, the setting of the finemaster's chair backwards in the corner, and the general discussion that came after the fact made this writer decide that we have indeed come a long way as a Club!  Seventeen years ago when women first ventured into Rotary the reaction would have been quite different ...

BOB ADAMS AND DON HULL are to be congratulated for their extraordinary dedication to the winning Alta Vista basketball team.

JACK HEIDMILLER wants you to save your old laptops for a Chilean project.

DENNIS YOUNG  introduced MELINDA CERVANTES, our County Librarian.  She spoke on the advantages and necessity of the County Library Bond Measure, which is a continuation of an existing "benefit assessment" due to expire in June of "05 . The assessment has been $33.60 per parcel and will increase to $42.00 if Measure B passes.  The money will come back to our Library, which is the number one library in "use per capita".  This measure requires a 2/3 vote to pass, so get out there today!
