MEETING OF JUNE 27, 2002

To say that I am the author of this rotator is stretching it a bit. It also breaks the first rule of the 4way test.

Actually, Past President Firooz wrote this, although throughout the meeting and the Kick out Dinner on Friday June 28th, I did take notes. Well, that should count for something.

These are still my comments. Did you notice at the meeting that a great many people were recognized? This is the nature of a meeting like this. The old (pardon me Firooz) thanks all of his supporters, and the new (that'd be you President Mary) introduces the new, and thanks them for which I am sure will be a wonderful year.

The point I am making is that we don't be come the greatest Rotary club in the world by the work of one person. It takes a team. A team of dedicated, hard working individuals. We heard the names, and saw the faces Friday night. But for every one who was recognized, there were probably 10 people who worked on a committee, or two or three, to make this past year a success. Not everyone was recognized, but that is hallmark of Rotary: Service above Self.

But on to Firooz comments:

In addition, at least there are three people I failed to recognize at the Kickout. With my apologies, I do it now, and they are: Sam Pesner (fine collection), Marlene Cowan (Scholarships) and Dick Henning (Wheelchair program). Because we are a very active club, chances are I am still missing others. I do thank every one of you for all your great work.

A FAREWELL MESSAGE FROM FIROOZ

Somehow, in this farewell message, I find myself wanting to protect Rotary's image in the world outside. I am concerned that the magician/comedian who performed at the noon kickout may have left the meeting thinking that our responsibilities as Americans conflict with our responsibilities as Rotarians. I hope someone will explain to him that as Americans we want to do what is best for our country. And, as Rotarians we want to do what is best for the world, by attempting to practice the Rotary motto of "World peace through understanding."

It has been said that true power stems from the power to do good. Indeed, this is what makes Los Altos Rotary a truly powerful organization. With your support and wide participation in projects such as the fuel efficient stoves in Guatemala, AIDS education through out the world, scholarship grants for Foothill students, and tutoring in our public schools, you empower those you help. You continue to change the world!

Now, when it comes to expression of affection, I choose to imagine there is no tomorrow. So, I want to use this instant to say I love all of you. My thanks to all 154 of you for attending the kickout. Once again thank you for a great year!

Finally, let's move on to the year 2002-03 with great enthusiasm. With Pres. Mary at the helm, this is going to be a superb year!! I look forward to enjoying myself at the meetings.
