MEETING OF JUNE 13, 2002

RON POPIEL OF ROTARY: When President Firooz leaves office, I see a very bright career for him in late night TV infomercials. IT'S JUST A PIECE OF PAPER FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE. "Graduation Ceremony." "Diplomas." Come on!

Everyone was dying to be part of the "graduation ceremony" next week, and they were willing to pay big bucks -- $94 was the highest I heard. Writing as quickly as I could I got the following new diplomats (and JUST IN TIME FOR THE GRADUATION CEREMONY NEXT WEEK): Wyatt Allen, (already a Diplomat but he contributed $104 anyway) Dick Blanding, Karen Fox, George Perham, Dick Fouquet (he got so excited in joining the crowd, he forgot he was already a Diplomat), Ginny Lear, Roy Lave, Mel Kahn (he's already a diplomat, several times over. He was just surprised at John McAlister's generosity in becoming a Paul Harris Fellow ), Pat Farrell, Billy Russell, Mike Schneider, Jack Higgins, and Dick Hasenpflug.

Then there was Dick Duhring who was fined for something, but neither he nor I know what, and Dick did not have to pay for whatever it was. It just goes to show you that you should never let the person controlling the meeting take over the business of fining people. We just can't afford that.

STARTERS: Jerry Moison lead the pledge, Ellen Flanagan read some very nice "thank-you" notes from several Art Show participants and Seth Manning lead the group in SMILE.

NEW CREW: Membership Chair Alex Ng presented one new Red Badger to the club: Meg Solara with a classification of "Community Volunteer" WELCOME Meg!

Alex also presented three Red Badgers with their Blue Badge, an indication of completing the requirements for full membership into the club:
Marion Tavenner - Classification: Real Estate Investment
David Dye - Classification: Boy Scout Executive
Herb Marshal - Classification: Architectural Design

ART SHOW 2002 WRAPUP: Jerry Moisen conducted a 'Thank-you' to all of the participants of the Los Altos Fine Art Show, which included a number of non Rotarians. It clearly requires a lot of hard work by a lot of people. Most, if not all of the members of our club participated in one way or another in contributing to the success of the two day event.

Naturally some contributed more than others. Some, like Jerry, and the committee chairs contributed enormous amounts that made all of our jobs easier. Here is a (hopefully complete) list of the Committee and the Chairs.
ART SHOW CHAIR - Jerry Moison
PERSONNEL - Sam Pesner and Mary Marley
FOOD - Marion Tavenner
BEVERAGES - Bud Oliver
SITE - Gary Ross and Jeff Sundquist

It appears that the rain did little to dampen the success of the Art Show. Ginny Lear shared the gross figures with us, which indicate that we were pretty much on budget.

Next year's Art show is May 17th and 18th, 2003, so look at the above committees and figure out where you can be most useful
