Becoming A Member of the Los Altos Rotary Club
Candidates for Rotary Club membership are business, professional, or community
minded adults of good character who live or work in Los Altos or its adjacent
communities. Membership is by invitation only and new members must be
sponsored by a member who has been in the Club at least one year.
Members are encouraged to attend the weekly meetings and to attend at least 50%
of the meetings, including make-ups, unless excused for adequate reasons.
Members are expected to take an active part in a committee and/or any of the
projects supported by the Club. The annual Los Altos Rotary “Fine Art in the
Park” charitable fund raising event requires every Los Altos Rotarian to
volunteer to work two shifts.
Financial
obligations are:
- Admission Fee of $250
- Dues of $285 per year
- Fine/recognition - up to $100
- Lunches:
- hot meal - $20
- no meal - $ 5
- Contribute to the Rotary International Foundation (optional)
If a prospective member is invited to a Club meeting, he or she can attend three
weekly Rotary lunch meetings as a guest of a member at no charge. If the
person is invited to join, application forms are submitted on-line by the
prospective member and the sponsor. The applications are then reviewed by
the Club Board of Directors for their approval. Not all applications may
be accepted by the Board for membership.
After Board approval an orientation meeting of about one hour is conducted, with
the sponsor, to acquaint the prospective member about the Rotary International
organization, the Los Altos Rotary Club, the obligations of membership, and to
answer any questions they may have.
The application is e-mailed to all the Club members for comments.
After 10 days, if there are no written objections, the person will be inducted
into the Los Altos Rotary Club. If there are any objections, the Board
will review the objections and vote again to accept or decline the application.
